The NV5 MKII is designed specifically around 120 mm-class cooling. Phanteks does not list 140 mm fan or radiator mounting positions for this chassis.

Dual 360 mm Liquid Cooling

The NV5 MKII provides dedicated space for a 360 mm radiator at both the top and motherboard side. Phanteks specifies up to approximately 62 mm of total radiator-area depth in these locations, with maximum envelope dimensions of 134 × 430 × 62 mm at the top and 130 × 420 × 62 mm at the side.

This makes the chassis suitable for a large 360 mm CPU AIO or a custom-loop configuration using both primary radiator locations. Unlike some larger enthusiast cases, however, the NV5 MKII does not support 420 mm radiators.

Airflow Architecture

Side Intake

Three 120 mm side positions provide the primary intake path and can also accommodate a 360 mm radiator.

Bottom GPU Fan

A dedicated 120 mm bottom position directs fresh air toward the graphics-card area to supplement side intake.

Top & Rear Exhaust

Three 120 mm roof positions and one 120 mm rear position provide the natural exhaust path for heat leaving the CPU and GPU area.

High-Airflow Mesh

The top and side ventilation areas use Phanteks' ultra-fine performance mesh. The design is intended to combine unrestricted cooling access with useful dust filtration without adding a traditional thick filter layer over every opening.

The lower intake receives dedicated filtration, while the open showcase architecture relies more heavily on its fine mesh structure at the major ventilation surfaces.

Rear-Connector Motherboard Support

Rear-connector motherboard compatibility is the defining functional change separating the MKII from the original NV5. Openings behind the motherboard allow compatible power and I/O connectors to be routed from the rear instead of remaining visible in the main chamber.

Phanteks specifically identifies support for compatible ASUS BTF, MSI Project Zero and Gigabyte Project Stealth motherboards. This feature is particularly appropriate in the NV5 because so much of the system is visible through its glass panels.

Hardware Compatibility

440 mm GPU Length

The NV5 MKII supports graphics cards up to 440 mm long, providing ample room for very large current-generation GPUs.

170 mm GPU Height

Phanteks also specifies a 170 mm graphics-card height limit, important when planning especially tall cards and their power cables.

180 mm CPU Cooling

Air coolers up to 180 mm tall are supported, leaving enough space for many large dual-tower designs.

GPU Support & Vertical Mounting

A GPU support bracket is included with the case to help control sag on long, heavy graphics cards. Builders using very wide E-ATX motherboards should note that Phanteks' 280 mm E-ATX specification is stated without the GPU support bracket installed.

The chassis also provides three-slot vertical GPU support. A PCIe riser cable is not included and must be purchased separately if the vertical configuration is used.

Storage Support

2.5-inch SSD Positions4
3.5-inch HDD Positions3

The NV5 MKII retains more SATA storage capacity than many modern showcase cases, allowing a visually focused system to include several 2.5-inch SSDs or 3.5-inch hard drives when required.

Front I/O & Integrated D-RGB

USB-C1 × USB-C 3.2 Gen 2
USB-A2 × USB 3.0
AudioSeparate microphone and headphone connections
Lighting ControlsD-RGB Mode and D-RGB Color buttons
PowerDedicated power button

An integrated Digital-RGB controller allows the chassis lighting system to operate without software. Additional compatible D-RGB hardware can be connected, or the system can be synchronized with a compatible motherboard.

Works Best With

Large Showcase GPUs

A 440 mm length allowance, 170 mm height limit and included support bracket provide room for substantial modern graphics cards.

360 mm AIO Cooling

Top and side 360 mm mounting makes the chassis a natural match for large CPU liquid coolers.

Back-Connect Builds

The MKII is especially attractive when paired with a supported rear-connector motherboard that removes much of the visible cabling.

Build Experience

The large glass opening and removable PSU cover provide useful access during assembly. Phanteks also includes six zip ties, a GPU support bracket, motherboard and SSD hardware, PSU screws and a motherboard stand-off tool.

Community builders regularly describe the NV5 platform as enjoyable to build in, with its cable space and hardware clearances receiving particular praise. The MKII's rear-connector compatibility further reduces visible wiring when a matching motherboard is used.

Owner Satisfaction & What Builders Are Saying

Recurring Positive Feedback

  • Owners frequently praise the clean panoramic appearance.
  • Builders report that the chassis provides generous room for large graphics cards.
  • Cable-management space is regularly viewed positively.
  • The MKII's rear-connector motherboard support is valued for cleaner showcase builds.
  • Build experiences are commonly described as straightforward and enjoyable.
  • The integrated D-RGB system provides a convenient starting point for coordinated lighting.
  • Owners have successfully combined the chassis with 360 mm AIOs and large high-end GPUs.

Recurring Concerns

  • No fans are supplied with the case.
  • Only 120 mm fan positions are supported.
  • There is no 420 mm radiator support.
  • Only one bottom fan position is available for direct GPU intake.
  • Some community users have reported issues involving optional or integrated D-RGB lighting behavior.
  • A PCIe riser must be purchased separately for vertical GPU mounting.
  • Fully populating the case with matching premium fans and lighting can significantly increase total build cost.
Community feedback represents individual builder experiences rather than controlled technical testing. Reports of lighting problems should be treated as anecdotal observations rather than evidence of a general product defect.

Where Research Agrees & Differs

Manufacturer specifications and owner reports strongly agree on the NV5 MKII's main purpose: it is a showcase chassis designed to combine high-end visual presentation with enough room for powerful modern hardware.

Community builders repeatedly praise the appearance, cable-management space and ease of working inside the chassis. The ability to use rear-connector motherboards strengthens those advantages compared with the original NV5.

The main trade-off is cooling flexibility rather than basic cooling capacity. Eight 120 mm positions and dual 360 mm radiators provide substantial cooling potential, but builders wanting 140 mm fans or 420 mm radiators need a different chassis.

Upgrade & Build Considerations

The NV5 MKII offers strong graphics-card upgrade headroom with its 440 mm length and 170 mm height limits. The included support bracket also helps with increasingly heavy graphics cards, although builders using very wide E-ATX motherboards should verify the interaction between motherboard width and bracket placement.

Cooling upgrades are centered around the 120 mm ecosystem. Builders can populate as many as eight 120 mm fan positions and install 360 mm radiators at both the top and side.

The MKII's rear-connector compatibility is particularly useful for future motherboard upgrades. A builder can use a conventional ATX board today and later move to a supported back-connect design without replacing the chassis.

Alternatives to Consider

Montech TG3

A panoramic alternative that includes factory cooling and offers large hardware clearances with a different value-oriented approach.

HYTE X50

A visually distinctive alternative with curved construction, front and side 360 mm cooling and extensive GPU clearance.

Thermaltake CTE E660 MX

A substantially more cooling-focused alternative for builders who need 420 mm radiators, extensive fan capacity and custom-loop flexibility.

Who Is It Best For?

The Phanteks NV5 MKII is best suited to builders who want the PC itself to be a major visual component of the setup. Its panoramic glass, integrated D-RGB system and rear-connector motherboard support allow a very clean presentation when component and cable choices are planned around the chassis.

It also has enough hardware capacity for serious gaming systems, with 440 mm GPU clearance, 180 mm air-cooler clearance and dual 360 mm radiator support.

Builders primarily interested in maximum airflow per dollar should remember that the NV5 MKII includes no fans. Those wanting 140 mm fans or 420 mm radiators should also consider a different case.

Rockin Box Tech Research Summary

The Phanteks NV5 MKII is a showcase case first, but it avoids sacrificing the hardware capacity required for a serious performance system. Its near-seamless glass layout is backed by 440 mm graphics-card clearance, 180 mm CPU-cooler support and two major 360 mm radiator locations.

The MKII revision's most important improvement is support for modern rear-connector motherboards. Compatible ASUS BTF, MSI Project Zero and Gigabyte Project Stealth boards can move many normally visible connections behind the motherboard tray, complementing the case's glass-heavy presentation.

Cooling flexibility is substantial but deliberately centered on 120 mm hardware. Eight 120 mm fan positions are available, including one dedicated bottom position for direct GPU airflow. The top and side each support a 360 mm radiator.

The main cost consideration is that no fans are included. Achieving the fully populated appearance commonly associated with NV-series builds requires the builder to purchase the fan system separately, and premium D-RGB fans can materially increase the completed system cost.

Owner sentiment is generally positive regarding appearance, internal space and the building experience. Some users have reported D-RGB lighting issues, but these remain individual community reports rather than evidence of a measured widespread defect.

For a builder who values presentation, large-component support and back-connect compatibility more than factory-installed cooling, the NV5 MKII provides a flexible foundation for a clean modern gaming or enthusiast PC.
